This guide addresses PC black screens in Age of Empires IV, especially when campaign videos are set to 4K HDR. Start with driver and game-file checks; if the screen goes black during a video, try 1080p movie quality.
Check the PC setup
- Update the graphics driver and Windows, then restart the PC.
- Confirm the system meets the game’s requirements and that the game uses the dedicated graphics card on a laptop.
- Verify the game files in the launcher or store where you installed it.
If the black screen happens during campaign videos
Set movie quality to 1080p as a troubleshooting step. On PC versions with the optional 4K HDR Video Pack, temporarily disable that pack and retry the video. The pack setting affects campaign video playback; it is not a general fix for every black-screen issue.
