Hogwarts Legacy, an action role-playing game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under its Portkey Games label, has generated over $1 billion in retail sales. This impressive feat makes it the largest release of all time for Warner Bros. Games and the best-selling game year-to-date, increasing WB Discovery’s revenue by 7% year-over-year.
Set in the late 1800s, Hogwarts Legacy takes place a century before the events of the Harry Potter novels. Players control a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learning to wield magical abilities and objects. Alongside fellow students and professors, the protagonist embarks on a journey to uncover an ancient secret hidden within the wizarding world.
Hogwarts Legacy broke records on streaming platform Twitch, becoming the most-watched single-player game of all time. Within two weeks of its release, the game sold over 12 million copies and generated $850 million in global sales revenue. It has now been confirmed that the game has generated over $1 billion in revenue and more than 15 million copies sold worldwide. This figure does not include the sales of the PS4 and Xbox One versions or the planned Nintendo Switch release.
Available on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S since February 10, 2023, Hogwarts Legacy is set to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 5, 2023, and on the Nintendo Switch in July 2023.
