Final Fantasy XVI is the latest installment in the long-running Final Fantasy series. The game is being developed by Creative Business Unit III, a newly established division within Square Enix led by Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy XIV.
The game is set in the land of Valisthea, a continent divided among six rival nations that have been blessed with Crystals. The story revolves around the “Eikons,” the most powerful and deadly creatures in Valisthea, and the “Dominants,” humans blessed with the ability to call upon their power.
Final Fantasy XVI promises to deliver a fresh take on the series’ iconic combat system. The game will feature a “real-time action battle system” where players can control the protagonist directly during battles, combining both strategy and action.
As of now, Final Fantasy XVI is confirmed to be released on the PlayStation 5. It will be out on June 22, 2023.
