Larian Studios has recently announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be receiving significant updates across multiple platforms, to enhance the gaming experience. The latest news comes from the Director of Publishing at Larian, @Cromwelp, who revealed that Patch 5 will not be just another typical update, but a transformational leap forward in the game’s development.
Taking to Twitter, Cromwelp expressed immense pride in the development team’s achievements, reflecting on the substantial improvements made. He shared, “Patch 5 is really good. Spent the whole day talking with devs & Co. going through it all. They were all so proud of the changes. I can tell a lot of these were ‘finally, we did this!’,” signaling a significant milestone post-launch.
One of the most exciting aspects of this update is the cross-platform benefits it brings. The Xbox version of the game has been optimized, which has resulted in performance enhancements for PC and PS5 versions, as well. “Performance improvements are coming to both PC and PS5 on behalf of all the work that’s gone into optimizing for Xbox,” Cromwelp announced.
Earlier, Larian Studios had provided details about the Xbox version’s unique aspects, which will be released on three discs, including the highly anticipated Patch 5 pre-installed.
Patch 5 is expected to address critical issues such as the bug causing slowdowns and enhancing game performance significantly. In addition, it aims to refine character interactions, notably with Astarion, and resolve gameplay elements related to theft and violence.
Since its early access launch in October 2020 and full release in August 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has established itself as a landmark in the RPG genre, allowing players to craft their own adventure by choosing from an array of unique characters or pre-generated options. The game’s hallmark is its turn-based combat system, adhering to the 5th edition rules of Dungeons & Dragons and offering an extensive range of classes and subclasses for strategic depth.
The game has received widespread critical acclaim and earned several awards, including the Golden Joystick Award for Game of the Year. With the PlayStation 5 and macOS versions already out, an announcement for the Xbox Series S|X version is expected at The Game Awards 2023.
