Alan Wake 2 Confirmed to Feature Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Thomas Puha, the Communications Director at Remedy Entertainment, confirmed that Alan Wake 2, will feature a Performance Mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The game is scheduled for release on October 27, 2023, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

According to Puha, the game has been designed from the outset as a 30fps experience, emphasizing visuals and ambiance. Despite this focus, the development team has successfully incorporated a solid Performance Mode. Further details about this mode, including resolutions, will be disclosed at a later date. Puha also mentioned that Remedy’s Northlight engine scales well, allowing for lower resolutions while maintaining impressive visuals.

Alan Wake 2 is a sequel to the original Alan Wake game and is being developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. The narrative follows best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake, who has been trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years. He attempts to escape by writing a horror story involving an FBI agent named Saga Anderson.

The game is set in Bright Falls, a small-town community plagued by a series of ritualistic murders. Players will experience the story from the perspectives of both Alan Wake and Saga Anderson, two heroes on desperate journeys in separate realities. Their stories are interconnected in complex ways, affecting the worlds around them.

Players will explore two contrasting worlds: the scenic landscapes of Cauldron Lake and the towns of Bright Falls and Watery, as well as the nightmarish cityscape of the Dark Place. The game features intense close-combat situations where light serves as the ultimate weapon against supernatural enemies.
