With this guide, you’ll be ready to jump into the new main quest and explore the southwest part of the map in Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores expansion.
Horizon Forbidden West: The Burning Shores:
Here’s how to start The Burning Shores DLC in Horizon Forbidden West:
Step 1: Complete the Main Story Quest
The first requirement for starting the Burning Shores DLC is that you must have completed the main story quest in Horizon Forbidden West. If you have not yet finished the game, you will need to do so before you can access the DLC.
If you are playing through the game on a New Game+ playthrough, you will need to complete the main quest up to and including ‘Singularity’ before you can start the expansion. Alternatively, if you have a save file with the main quest already completed, you can use that to start the DLC.
Step 2: Reach Level 38
The second requirement for starting the Burning Shores DLC is that your character must be at least Level 38. If you have not yet reached this level, you may want to spend some time leveling up before you start the expansion.
Step 3: Download the DLC and Latest Update
Once you have met the requirements above, you can download the Burning Shores DLC and the latest update for Horizon Forbidden West. Make sure that you have installed both of these before you start the game.
Step 4: Load Your Save Game
After downloading the DLC and the latest update, load up your save game where you have completed the main questline. This should cause Sylens to contact Aloy, informing her that he has set up a base at Tilda’s Mansion to research the Zeniths.
Step 5: Start the Main Quest ‘To the Burning Shores’
After the conversation with Sylens has finished, you will be given the ‘To the Burning Shores’ main quest. This quest requires you to head to the southwest part of the map, where Tilda’s Mansion is located.
When you reach the mansion, head inside and make your way toward the quest marker. Here, you will find Sylens waiting for you on the balcony, ready to chat with you.
After the conversation with Sylens, a cutscene will begin, showing Aloy flying over to the Burning Shores, where your adventure will begin in earnest. From this point on, you should follow the main questline as you would normally do.
Step 6: Unlock the New Skills
The Burning Shores DLC introduces new skills that you can unlock as you play through the game. These skills are available for purchase as soon as you have installed the expansion. If you have any spare skill points, you can immediately spend these to purchase the new skills.
Step 7: Return of ‘Ghost Levels
Finally, any ‘Ghost Levels’ that you earned in the base game after reaching the original max level cap will be returned upon reaching the new max level cap. So, make sure to keep playing and leveling up your character to make the most of the new content in the Burning Shores DLC.
So, starting the Burning Shores DLC in Horizon Forbidden West requires you to complete the main story quest, reach level 38, download the DLC and latest update, and load up your save game. Once you’ve done all of these things, you can start the main quest ‘To the Burning Shores’ and unlock the new skills introduced in the DLC.
